Prologue

A pair of identical twins is lost at sea after a shipwreck. They are separated from one another’s sight.

Act 1

Duke Orsino, the ruler of Illyria, is in love with a beautiful Countess called Olivia. But much to his dismay, he is rejected and becomes very emotional. He therefore sends his new servant Cesario to help him woo the Lady. What he doesn’t know is that “Cesario” is in fact one of the lost twins, Viola, disguised as a man. Viola (Cesario) becomes depressed when Orsino sends her to woo his love, when Viola herself is actually in love with the Duke!

Meanwhile, Lady Olivia’s uncle, Sir Toby, is drunk again. He introduces his friend Sir Andrew to Maria, and they share a laugh. Feste, the jester of Olivia’s house, also attempts to make his mistress laugh, but is scorned by the Lady’s self-righteous steward Malvolio.

Act 2

It turns out that Sebastian, the other twin, is saved by Captain Antonio. He decides to part with Antonio and go to Duke Orsino’s court as well.

Not long after leaving Olivia’s court, Viola soon realizes in shock that the Lady has fallen in love with Cesario (Viola). When she returns to the Duke, he is upset over yet another rejection from Olivia, and insists on resending Cesario to woo her for him.

Later, Malvolio disrupts Sir Toby’s midnight carousal, triggering Sir Toby and his gang to pull a prank on Malvolio, where they intend to write a letter for him…

Act 3

When Cesario (Viola) visits Olivia again, the Lady frantically expresses her love towards Cesario, and tells him to come again soon.

Knowing this, Sir Andrew sadly plans to leave as Olivia does not favour him. Sir Toby and Fabian therefore urge him to challenge Cesario and win Olivia’s heart. Having meddled with both Viola and Sir Andrew, the duel is then intercepted by Antonio, thinking that “Cesario” is Sebastian. Unfortunately, Antonio is soon arrested.

Malvolio, on the other hand, follows the instructions of the letter and shocks everyone with his absurd behaviour…

Act 4

Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are convinced that Cesario (Viola) is nothing but a coward, and heads out to look for him again in search of a duel. Instead, they find Sebastian, who courageously fends off Sir Andrew. Olivia then emerges, and mistaking Sebastian for Cesario, asks him to marry her immediately.

As for Malvolio, he is being locked up in a cell as everyone believes he is mad. Despite this, poor Malvolio still clings onto the hope that Olivia is in fact truly in love with him.

Act 5

When Orsino visits Olivia at her house, he is stunned and furious that Olivia called Cesario (Viola) her husband. Sir Andrew and Toby then entered, injured, claiming that Cesario is the one who hurt them. Just then, a person who looks and sounds exactly like Cesario enters the house…
