Miss Michelle Ng

I wonder how you would feel about “starting from zero”. To me, these words represent mixed feelings. From the first “Comeback Kid” to “Soul for Sale” and then “The Last Move”, this is already the third time that I contribute to the backstage support of the school musicals. Each show involves different actors and sets, in addition to the close coordination of cast and backstage crew, teachers and external organizations…I feel that we have come a long way.

I believe all backstage crew feel the same as I do. From the initial designs to putting the different elements into function - the lightings, sounds, props and sets are all done by ourselves. Starting from scratch, we worked, learnt and then improved. Without participation, you could hardly imagine how satisfied we are to see all the work done. Backstage crew is not as charming and venerated as the cast, yet we have gained a lot from the experience. We understand ourselves better and know how to get along well with others. We are always the earliest ones to arrive at the scene and the latest to leave. We have devoted to our duties and worked whole-heartedly. Success is not a matter of just showing up but participating and enjoying the fruits and failures of the process. What we have acquired through the experience would never be gained from books.
